I represent a rare minority- I am a woman and make significantly more than my partner and are more established in my career than him. The downside is that I not only get the "masculine side" of working longer hours with more responsibility and paying the lions share of the household expenses, but I am also, by default expected to do greater share of the housework because I am a woman and wait until my partner is more established in his career before leaving the workforce to have a child, a difficult ask for those women in their mid-thirties.
Yes women are must happier in the public sector jobs because the pay conditions and status are much better. Access to affordable child care is also critical What the point in having a casual job paying $18 an hour when childcair costs are going to take away more than half of it ?
